GEOL_STREAM_TO_SINK_BASIN (FeatureServer)

View In: ArcGIS JavaScript ArcGIS Online Map Viewer

Service Description:

The stream-to-sink watershed layer was developed to provide a layer that showed stream basins or watershed where streams discharged directly to the Floridan aquifer. The basin coverage used for the making was obtained from FDEP's shapefile DRAINAGE_BASINS_1997_AREAS. In developing the layer three types of stream-to-sink basins were evaluated. Most streams in Alachua County discharge to the Floridan aquifer or to large lakes. Three types or groupings of stream-to-sink watersheds were recognized. The first group is the relatively small closed basins in the central and north central portion of Alachua County, including Hogtown Creek and Mill creek. The second group includes the Santa Fe River and its tributaries. In evaluating the area in southeastern Alachua County, it was recognized that many of these waters ultimately discharge to the Floridan aquifer, less directly via the sinkholes in Orange Lake. These areas include Newnans Lake, Lochloosa Lake and Orange Lake and are not mapped as stream-to-sink.
